a few thoughts of my own: paul makes plain in second corinthians the need to feel empathy: ‘faith hope and love, the greatest of these is love’ and love, within this passage, is closer to our concept of empathy.
i’m glad others can see this in paul.
as to the flesh: i never found paul to be against the flesh, indeed by allowing women to engage in worship he stood against many of the deniers of the flesh and was ahead of many who came after him who only allowed women to worship if they starved themselves to the point that they stopped menstraiting.
paul seems so human and warm, a voice calling warmly to us across nearly two millennia.
